On June 26 I had the car all loaded and I was about to drive away when I remembered that my water canteen was on the kitchen counter. When I pulled on the driver side door handle it cracked in half and I couldn't get out. I climbed over the stick and escaped out the other side. God bless Mike Hitchcock, my marvelous car mechanic -- in spite of being really busy he worked me in. I picked up the part from Toyota (last one in stock), took it over to his shop and he installed it on the spot... and I arrived in Barstow before midnight that night. I'm definitely going to pay Mike a thankyou visit when I get home!
Please excuse the lack of variety in focal length as you look at my pictures. I'm only using an iPhone -- partly just to see what's possible and because it's easier to only carry around 1 device.
Enroute to Albuquerque area I spent a wonderful day and a half in Flagstaff/Sedona. I'll post pictures of the stop in AZ later in the blog.
This week I'm in Corrales NM, a sleepy village just north of Albuquerque in the cottonwood forest (bosque) along the Rio Grande. June is the hottest month of the year here (high 90's and above) and temperature is a big topic. (Passing through Needles it was 109). We usually have a brief rain in the afternoons (it's "monsoon" season). Rain is so welcome that no one seems to care if they get wet. My hostess Micha sat outside in the rain last evening because it feels so good. I'm just glad it's not humid like on the east coast.
